As a German revert to Islam and cofounder of KL’s top ranked Muslim friendly Italian restaurant, Haji Mohd Imran now brings his latest exciting restaurant to the world in honor of one his most inspiring childhood influences, Ibu Ruby.
Ibu Ruby’s focuses on Imran’s favorite dishes in fusing Indonesian and Malay cuisine, made from scratch with fresh ingredients, no commercial pastes, and no MSG, and brings them to the world at value.
Imran moved to Jakarta, Indonesia in 1978 and in January of 1979, his parents hired family chef Ibu Ruby, a highly talented Indo-Malay cuisine specialist chef who had grown up in Yogyakarta and had spent her entire childhood mastering Indo-Malay cuisine recipes passed down from her grandmother and generations before her. Ibu Ruby created amazingly delicious halal Indonesian and Malay dishes for Imran’s family, and nurtured Imran’s body and soul with her tasteful delights.
Ibu Ruby would share her childhood stories and how she grew to love creating the most delicious home cooked food. Imran loved Ibu Ruby like a second mother and spent many nights with her in her kitchen watching her prepare his Indo-Malay food and becoming intimately familiar with her flavors and tastes.
He eventually reverted to Islam in December of 1994 in a mosque in Jakarta and eighteen years later, Imran performed his Hajj in 2012, during which he had a life changing experience.
Sadly Ibu Ruby passed away ten years later. To honor her legacy, Imran has finally decided to bring Ibu Ruby’s dishes to the world for all to enjoy. Ibu Ruby brought the best of halal Indo-Malay food to Imran as he pursued his journey towards Islam. Our Team
Ibu Ruby’s was cofounded by Hj Mohd Imran Abdullah from Germany and Ajai Sulekh from Japan with the aim of bringing authentic and 5-star quality Nasi Lemak, Ayam Penyet and other iconic Indo-Malay dishes to the world at 3-star prices.
Both cofounders led successful careers in the corporate world after being MBA classmates at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1996 and are both committed to delivering the very best to Ibu Ruby’s diners.
